Joyce Goss:

Two Toucans, Katherine Bernhardt.

“One of my favorite paintings is Two Toucans by American artist, Katherine Bernhardt. Bernhardt is no stranger to North Texas, as she had an exhibition at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth in 2017 and was also commissioned to paint a site-specific work at Forty Five Ten. Her painting style has been described as a fusion of Pop art, color field, and graffiti. Like most of Bernhardt's paintings, Two Toucans is full of vibrant color and has a sense of playfulness. Every time I look at this painting, it makes me smile. Perhaps it is because the toucans and papaya remind me of the tropics, where I wish I could travel to this summer. Or maybe it's the vivid colors that make the painting whimsical and fun. Whatever the reason, this piece serves as a mood lifter in this time of isolation.”
